If you can no longer attend the session you originally enrolled in and must attend another session at a later date, that is not a problem. You can switch sessions by following the steps below:
1) You can add new classes from a session you can attend and then drop ALL of the classes in the session you can no longer attend
2) OR you can “swap” for another class in the new session you can attend. Follow the steps below if you would like to swap your classes.
Swap action can be used to drop one class and simultaneously add another (it combines the add and drop function). By swapping, rather than dropping then adding, you ensure you keep your original enrollment until your enrollment in the new class is confirmed.
How to Swap
Log in to CalCentral and navigate to the My Academics tab and select the Enrollment Center option on the Class Enrollment Card.
Then select the option to Swap Courses from the side panel and follow the prompts based on what you wish to swap.
Cost & Unit Value
You may swap your class with another class that has the same or different unit value.
More Unit Value: If you swap for a class that has more unit value than the one you dropped, you will need to pay the difference.
Same Unit Value: There is no cost difference unless it is past the refund deadline.
Less Unit Value: If you swap into a class with a less unit value before the refund deadline, you will automatically be refunded the difference. If it is after the deadline you will not be refunded the difference.
It is the student’s responsibility to swap (add and drop functions combined) course(s) before the refund deadline in order to avoid being charged for a class they do not wish to take. You can find all summer sessions' deadlines listed at summer.berkeley.edu/registration/schedule.
