Most international students attending UC Berkeley Summer Sessions will need to obtain an F-1 student visa, which requires full-time enrollment. The number of units you must take will depend on which sessions you enroll in. Please click the link above to see an overview of the required units per session.
Full-time enrollment is required for visiting international students who wish to obtain a UC Berkeley Summer Sessions I-20 (F-1). Full-time enrollment must be maintained during the entire period noted on the I-20. Dropping below full-time or withdrawing without approval from ISS may result in a violation of your immigration status.
Contact visiting-intl@berkeley.edu if you face unexpected, extreme circumstances and are considering dropping below full-time only after you arrive. I-20s will not be issued to students enrolled less than full-time. Waitlisted courses do not count toward full-time enrollment.
