International students in F-1 status who completed full-time classes during the summer term can remain in the U.S. 60 days past the program end date listed on their I-20.
If you leave the U.S. after completing your summer program, you cannot re-enter the country with the same I-20 provided by UC Berkeley for the summer term. You will have forfeited the remainder of your grace period.
If you plan to continue as a full-time student at another U.S. institution after Berkeley Summer Sessions, follow the following steps to transfer your record to a new school.
In order to transfer your F-1 SEVIS record, you will need to request for Transfer Out in your ISS Portal. You can find the request by navigating to the requests and documents tab in your dashboard. You will need to provide the following information:
- Release date - Must be within 60 days of your program end date (last day of classes) and no earlier than the day after classes end. (ex. if classes end on August 15th, you can select any day between August 16th and October 14th)
- SEVIS Code for the school that you are transferring your record to
- Official Proof of Admission to the school that you are transferring your record to
Please note that if you are transferring to another school, you must begin your program at that school within 5 months of your program end date at Berkeley.
