What is the Form I-94?
Upon arrival to the U.S., Customs and Border Protection (CBP) gathers all travelers' arrival/departure information and records this in their database. The Form I-94 is an online record of your arrival/departure to/from the U.S. and indicates on which visa you were admitted to the U.S.
Important! As an F-1 student, your I-94 should include your name, your visa status (F-1) and your length of stay (D/S). If your I-94 states something different, please contact International Student Services as soon as possible.
What is it used for?
The I-94 is used to verify immigration status, report your arrival to your school, apply for a driver's license and other uses.
You are required to upload a copy of your I-94 into your ISS Portal as part of your Arrival Confirmation requirement.
The I-94 also confirms your allowed length of stay in the U.S. An F-1 student is admitted to the U.S. for a period known as "Duration of Status (D/S)," which is recorded on your entry documents I-94 with the notation "D/S." Duration of Status refers to the period a student is pursuing a full course of study, plus any authorized practical training following completion.
How do I find my I-94?
You can find your most recent I-94 after you arrive in the U.S. from the CBP I-94 website.
- Go online to the CBP I-94 website.
- Click "Get Most Recent I-94"
- Review and click "Consent & Continue"
- Complete required information about yourself as it appears on your visa, click "Next".
- Print to PDF or screenshot your I-94 and save it for upload.
- Upload it into your ISS Portal.
What if I can't find my I-94?
Wait at least 48 hours after arrival to access your form I-94. Also, verify that you are entering your name exactly as it appears on your I-20 and visa. Sometimes, the first name and last name gets flipped. Sometimes, a name is too long for the I-94 to recognize. Occasionally, if you booked your flight under a different variation of your name, you can try that.
If you still can't find it, please contact International Student Services for assistance.
