New Fall Graduate Students are considered Visiting Students
New graduate students admitted for Fall who wish to enroll in the summer prior to their first Fall term must apply and enroll as a Non-degree Visiting Student.
This means that your "Student Type" during the Summer be a "Visiting Student." All visiting student must submit a Summer Sessions application. Note, visiting student fees will be charged.
Please find below a general timeline for the process of selecting courses, applying, and enrolling:
- The Class Schedule is released online in mid-December. You can find the course listings at classes.berkeley.edu using the "Summer Sessions 2026" filter.
- The application opens on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 for visiting students. Fill out the Visiting Student Summer Application (domestic or international).
- All Visiting applicants must confirm their identity via a secure, automated Identity Verification process and pay an application fee in order to submit an application.
- About 48 hours after you've applied, you will get an email with your UC Berkeley Student ID number and instructions to set up your CalNet account. After doing this, in CalCentral, you will complete all required tasks and enroll in courses.
- International Students: After you have enrolled in courses, UC Berkeley Graduate students must obtain their visa documents from Berkeley International Office (not Summer Sessions). You will need to complete the Non-Immigrant Information Form (NIF).
- Tuition and fees will be due in CalCentral 7 days after your first enrollment. (Visiting students who fail to pay the fees before the deadline may be dropped from their course(s) for non-payment. Please read the Drop for Non Payment Policy.
