Berkeley Summer Sessions is open to a wide variety of students, including UC Berkeley degree-seeking students, students from other UC campuses, visiting students from around the U.S. and the world, as well as the general public.
UC Berkeley Students
Continuing UC Berkeley students do not need to submit a Summer Session application. They can enroll in Summer Sessions courses via CalCentral starting in February.
New UC Berkeley Freshman and Transfer Students do not need to submit a Summer Session application. They must opt in to the Edge program in order to enroll in Summer classes. See New Undergraduate Students - Edge Enrollment.
New UC Berkeley Graduate Students must submit a Summer Session application and enroll as a Visiting Student. See below and New Graduate Students - Application.
If you were a UC Berkeley student in the past and are returning to enroll in Summer (but not re-admitted), you are a Visiting student (see below). If you are re-admitted, you will work with your College to activate your summer enrollment card. See I withdrew from UC Berkeley.
Visiting Students
Non-UC Berkeley students must submit a Summer Session application.
Eligibility:
- Must be 18 years of age or older by the start of your courses
- Non-U.S. citizens must meet the minimum English Language Proficiency Requirement
- Must complete the Summer Sessions application for access to enroll in summer courses
- All applicants must confirm their identity via a secure, automated Identity Verification process and pay an application fee.
High school students who are 16 and 17 years old are eligible to apply via our Pre-College Scholars program. Please do not complete the general Summer Sessions application.
